Type your name or brand, and what you do, to get Instagram username ideas you can copy. Pick a style, from professional to aesthetic, then check whether the same name is free as your Linkerzz page address.

Style

Ideas use only letters, numbers, periods and underscores, and stay under 20 characters so they are easy to say and remember.

Username ideas

Type your name or brand and your ideas appear here.

We cannot tell you whether a username is free on Instagram, because that needs Instagram's own data. To check, try the name in Edit profile on Instagram: if it is taken, you cannot use it.

One name for Instagram and your link

Use the same name for your username and your page, such as linkerzz.com/janebakes, so people find you easily. Linkerzz is free to start.

How to use the Instagram username generator

    1. Type your name or brand. A first name, a full name or a business name all work.
    2. Add what you do and where. A username that says what you do, such as jane.photography, is easier to find and remember.
    3. Choose a style, from professional to soft and aesthetic.
    4. Copy the ones you like and press "Show me more" for others.
    5. Try your favourite in Instagram, in Edit profile. If it is taken, pick the next one or add a period, number or underscore.

    Username ideas with your name

Your name is the easiest place to start, because people already search for it. The generator mixes it with a word for what you do or where you are, such as jane.photo or janeleeds. If your plain name is taken, a short word after it usually works better than numbers.

    Aesthetic username ideas

Pick the Aesthetic style for soft, calm names built from words such as notes, journal, atelier and house. Keep the name short, and use one period or underscore to separate two words. Our aesthetic Instagram bio ideas are a good match for the bio that goes with it.

Is the username available or taken?

This tool cannot tell you, and neither can any outside website, because it needs Instagram's own data. To check, open Edit profile in Instagram and try the name in the Username field. If it is taken, Instagram will not let you use it. You can also search for it on Instagram first, to see who already has it.

If the username you want is taken

Instagram's Help Center suggests adding periods, numbers, underscores or an abbreviation to find a name that is free. Adding what you do or your city is usually better than adding random numbers, because it also tells people what your account is about.

    Username or handle?

They mean the same thing: the @name people use to find, tag and message you. It is different from the display name on your profile. Our guide, What is an Instagram handle?, explains the meaning, where to find yours and how to change it.

Make the rest of your profile match

Once you have a username, write a bio that fits. Our Instagram bio generator builds bios that fit the 150-character limit, the Instagram font generator adds a little style, and the Instagram profile link generator turns your username into a link and a QR code.

    Questions

What is the difference between an Instagram username and a handle?

None in practice. Your username is the unique name after the @ sign that people use to find, tag and message you, and "handle" is the everyday word for it. Instagram's own help pages call it a username.

Can this tool check if an Instagram username is taken or available?

No, and no outside tool can do it reliably, because it needs Instagram's own data. The sure way is to open Edit profile in Instagram and try the name: if it is taken, Instagram will not let you use it. You can also search for it on Instagram first.

How do I make an aesthetic Instagram username?

Choose the Aesthetic style above for soft words such as notes, journal and atelier, keep it short, and use a period or an underscore between two words. Avoid long strings of numbers, which make a name harder to read and remember.

What should I do if the username I want is taken?

Instagram's Help Center suggests adding periods, numbers, underscores or an abbreviation to find a name that is free. Adding what you do or your city is usually better than adding random numbers, because it also tells people what your account is about.

Does this username generator use AI?

No. It builds ideas from your own words with simple rules, in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere and there is nothing to sign up for. The ideas stay short and tidy, using only letters, numbers, periods and underscores.

What does "Check on Linkerzz" do?

It checks whether the same name is free as the address of a Linkerzz page, such as linkerzz.com/janebakes. Linkerzz names can use letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores, so periods are swapped for underscores. It is useful if you want one name for Instagram and your link in bio page.

Can I change my username later?

Yes, from Edit profile. Instagram's Help Center says that in most cases you can also change back to a username you used before. Anyone who has your old username saved or printed will need the new one, so update your link in bio, your cards and your website.

Is the Instagram username generator free and private?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up, and the ideas are made in your browser. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere until you press "Check on Linkerzz", which sends only that one name to check if it is free.
