How to make a QR code that scans every time

  • Keep the contrast high. Dark code on a light background is the safest. Avoid pale colours and never invert the code.
  • Leave the white border. The empty margin around the code helps a camera find it. The tool adds it for you, so do not crop it off.
  • Make it big enough. As a rule of thumb, a printed code should be at least 2 cm (about 0.8 inch) wide, and bigger if people scan from a distance.
  • Test it. Scan the finished code with two different phones before you print a thousand flyers.

What to put in a QR code

The most useful codes point to one clear place: your link-in-bio page, your booking page, a menu, a WhatsApp chat or a review page. A short link makes a simpler, easier-to-scan code than a long one with lots of tracking parameters.

If you want one code that leads to everything you share, a Linkerzz page gives you a single address to turn into a QR code, and you can change what is behind it any time without reprinting.

Questions

Is the QR code free to use?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit. The code is made in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to us.

Will the QR code stop working?

No. The code holds your text or link directly, so it works for as long as that link works. It does not go through our servers.

Which colour should I pick?

A dark colour on the white background scans best. If you choose a light colour the tool warns you, because phone cameras struggle to read low-contrast codes. Always scan your finished code with a phone before you print it.

What do the error correction levels mean?

Higher levels let a code still scan when part of it is dirty, scratched or covered, at the cost of a denser pattern. Medium is a good default. Use High if you plan to print on rough surfaces or put a logo over the middle.

PNG or SVG?

Use PNG for screens, social posts and documents. Use SVG for print, because it stays sharp at any size, from a business card to a poster.
