The short answer

A photographer's bio should say what you shoot, where, and how to book you. Choose the example below that matches your niche, add your city and a real detail about how you work, and send the link to a page with your portfolio and a booking option.

Linkerzz makes a link-in-bio page builder and is not affiliated with Instagram, TikTok or any other app named here.

  4. What goes behind the link

  6. Choosing a name
  7. Keep it current

Your photos do most of the selling. The bio and the link do the rest: they tell someone who just liked a picture what you shoot, where, and how to hire you. A bio that only says “Photographer | Capturing moments” gives them nothing to act on.

Here is a simple formula, bios you can copy for twelve kinds of photography, and what to put behind your link. We keep each example short, because Instagram gives you very little room.

The formula

Three short lines:

  1. What you shoot and where. “Wedding photographer in [City].”
  2. A reason to choose you. Your style or how you work: “Natural light, relaxed couples.”
  3. How to book. “Booking 2027” or “Book a session” with an arrow to your link.

Lead with the work you want more of. If you want more weddings, do not open with your landscape series.

Copy-and-paste bio ideas by niche

Tap a line to copy it, then replace anything in square brackets.

  • Weddings: 💍 Wedding photographer in [City] | Natural light, relaxed couples | Booking [year] 👇
  • Portraits: 📸 Portrait photographer, [City] | Honest, easy sessions for people who hate being photographed | Book a session 👇
  • Family: 👨‍👩‍👧 Family photographer in [City] | Real moments, not stiff poses | See packages 👇
  • Newborn: 🍼 Newborn and maternity photography, [City] | Gentle, safe and unhurried | Check availability 👇
  • Headshots: 💼 Professional headshots in [City] | Ready in 48 hours | Book a headshot 👇
  • Products: 📦 Product photography for small brands | Clean images that sell | Get a quote 👇
  • Food: 🍽 Food photographer for restaurants and cafes in [City] | Menus, social and delivery apps | See my work 👇
  • Real estate photography: 🏡 Real estate photography in [City] | Bright, accurate photos, next-day delivery | Book a shoot 👇
  • Events: 🎉 Event photographer in [City] | Parties, launches and conferences | Ask for a quote 👇
  • Pets: 🐶 Pet photographer in [City] | Treats, patience and great light | Book a session 👇
  • Travel and landscape: 🌄 Landscape and travel photography | Prints and presets available | Shop my work 👇
  • Fine art prints: 🖼 Limited edition prints from [Place] | Signed and numbered | View the collection 👇

Edit them until they sound like you. Specific beats clever: “Honest, easy sessions for people who hate being photographed” tells a nervous client exactly what they want to hear.

Put your location where people look

Clients for local work search by place. Add your city to your name line as well, for example “Mei Tanaka | [City] Photographer”. It sits at the top of your profile, so a visitor sees where you work before they read the bio.

A bio gets a tap. The page it opens turns a tap into a booking. For a photographer it should have:

  1. Your best work at the top, as large pictures.
  2. A link to your packages, with what is included and a starting price.
  3. One clear way to book: a calendar, or a short enquiry form.
  4. One short testimonial.

We cover each part in Link in bio for photographers. A Linkerzz page has a photographer template with a portfolio card, photo tiles, a booking card and a contact form, and starting is free. Create yours, replace the example photos and links with your own, and paste the address into your bio.

What to avoid

  • A long list of everything you shoot. Two niches, clearly stated, beat ten.
  • “DM for prices.” It adds a step. Send people to a page that shows packages or at least what is included.
  • Vague taglines. “Capturing moments” describes every photographer. Say what is different about yours.
  • Hiding your location. If you work locally, say where.

Choosing a name

If you are starting a photography account, the free Instagram username generator suggests names from your own name, your work and your city.

Keep it current

If you are fully booked, say so: “Booking 2027” tells people you are in demand and when you are free. If you are quiet, put the service you want more of at the top. Check the bio once a month, and again whenever your focus changes.

Frequently asked questions

What should a photographer put in their Instagram bio?

What you shoot, where you are based, who you shoot for and how to book. If you can, add a detail that makes you different, such as your style or how a session works.

Should I list every type of photography I do?

No. Pick the one or two kinds of work you most want to be hired for. A clear niche is easier to remember and to refer.

Should I put my location in my bio?

Yes, if you work locally. Most clients for weddings, portraits and events want someone near them, so name your city or region.

What should my link lead to?

A page with your best work first, your packages, and one clear way to book or enquire, such as a booking calendar or a contact form.

Do I need a different bio for each kind of photography?

If you shoot very different kinds of work, keep one bio but use the link page to show a separate portfolio tile for each, so each visitor finds their kind of shoot.
