How to add a link to your Threads bio and YouTube channel

Instagram is not the only place with a link in the profile. Threads and YouTube each have their own, with their own rules. Here is how to add one on each, what the official pages say, and how to keep them all pointing at the same place.

The Instagram row comes from Instagram’s Help Center, which also says adding a website is done in the app and not on the web app. The steps are in how to add a link to your Instagram bio.

How to add a link to your Threads bio

These steps come from Instagram’s Help Center page “Edit your profile on Threads”, which says you can update your bio, username, links and profile picture:

1. In Threads, tap your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
2. Tap Edit profile below your profile information.
3. Tap Link (or Bio to change the text) and enter your information.
4. Tap Done in the top right to save.

The page lists a Link in the singular and does not state a limit, so do not count on more than one. If you want visitors to reach several things from Threads, link to one page that has them all.

Threads and Instagram are separate

Instagram’s help page on where to manage Threads settings says your bio and link can be changed in Threads or in Instagram, but changes on Threads only affect Threads, and changes on Instagram only affect Instagram unless you choose to import them to Threads. So if you change the link on Instagram, check Threads too. If both point at the same link page, you never need to.

How to add links to your YouTube channel

YouTube is the most generous: its Help Center says you can show up to 14 links on your channel’s Home tab, as long as they follow YouTube’s external links policy.

On a computer

1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
2. In the left menu, select Customization, then Profile.
3. Under Links, click Add link and enter the title and the address.
4. Click Publish.

In the YouTube Studio app

1. Open the YouTube Studio app and tap your profile picture in the top right.
2. Next to your channel description, tap Edit.
3. Under Links, tap Edit, then tap Add and enter the title and the address.
4. Tap Done, then Save.

Which link goes first

YouTube says your first link is displayed prominently in the profile section next to the subscribe button, and your other links show when viewers click to see more. Put the one thing you most want people to do first. If you have a link in bio page, that is usually the best first link, with your shop, newsletter or other profiles on the page itself.
