Instagram link in bio not clickable? 7 checks to try

The short answer

Instagram's Help Center says websites are added in the app under Edit profile, then Links (up to 5), and that adding a website is not available on the web app. Check that first, then save, test the address, update the app and report a problem if it still fails.

Linkerzz makes a link-in-bio page builder and is not affiliated with Instagram, TikTok or any other app named here. Facts about other apps were checked on November 3, 2026. Apps change their menus often, so trust the app's own help page if yours looks different.

On this page
  1. 1. Use the Instagram app, not a computer
  2. 2. Put the address in Links, not in your bio text
  3. 3. Save it, then look at your profile
  4. 4. Check the address itself
  5. 5. Check you have not reached the limit
  6. 6. Update the app
  7. 7. Report the problem to Instagram
  8. When the link works but five links is not enough
  9. Make one page for all your links

You added a link to your Instagram profile, but it does not show up, will not save, or does nothing when someone taps it. Most of the time the cause is one of a few simple things. Here they are in the order worth trying, using the steps on Instagram’s own Help Center pages (read on 3 November 2026).

1. Use the Instagram app, not a computer

Instagram’s Help Center page for adding a website says the feature “isn’t available on the web app”, and that it is available in the Android and iPhone apps. If you are on instagram.com on a computer and cannot find a place for your link, open the Instagram app on your phone instead.

Instagram describes one way to add a website to your profile:

  1. Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Tap Links, then tap Add external link (iPhone) or Add link (Android), and enter the address.
  4. Tap Done.

Your bio is a different box. It is for text, and Instagram says it holds up to 150 characters. We could not find an Instagram page that describes a link typed into the bio text, so the safe route is the Links section. If you pasted your address into the bio, delete it there and add it under Links.

3. Save it, then look at your profile

After you tap Done, tap Back and open your profile. Check that the link is listed and tap it to see where it goes. Instagram notes that anyone, on or off Instagram, can see the websites on your profile, so a friend can open your profile and tell you what they see.

4. Check the address itself

This one is not from Instagram, it is plain common sense, and it solves a lot of “not working” cases:

  • Start with https:// and read it letter by letter. One wrong letter or a stray space and the link goes nowhere.
  • Paste it into your phone’s browser (Safari or Chrome, not Instagram). If it does not open there, Instagram cannot fix it. The problem is the address or the page.
  • Try it on mobile data as well as Wi-Fi, and make sure the page does not need a login to be seen.

5. Check you have not reached the limit

Instagram’s Help Center says you can add up to 5 websites. If you already have 5, remove one first: tap the link in Links, then tap Remove link, and add the new one.

6. Update the app

When something on Instagram is not working correctly, Instagram’s first suggestion is to update the app. Open the App Store or Google Play, update Instagram, and try again. If you still do not see Links at all after updating, remember that Instagram also notes some features are not available to everyone at the same time.

7. Report the problem to Instagram

If it still fails after the checks above, report it. Instagram’s Help Center gives two ways, in the Android and iPhone apps:

  • Shake your phone to see the reporting menu, then tap Report a problem.
  • Or tap your profile picture, then Menu (top right), then Help (under “More info and support”), then Report a Problem, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Instagram asks you to include as much detail as you can: the kind of phone you use, what you were doing when it happened, and a screenshot.

Once the link works, the next question is what to put behind it. Instagram gives you up to five. A link in bio page puts everything on one page, so you only need one link and can change what is on it without touching your profile. How to make a link in bio page in 10 minutes shows the steps, and where the link in bio is on Instagram explains where people look for it.

This guide is about the link in your profile. Links in Stories work differently: see how to add a link to your Instagram story.

A Linkerzz page is free to start. It holds your links, pictures, a contact form and a WhatsApp button on one fast page, and you put that single address in your Instagram Links section.
